According to the Panchang, this year 2026, the auspicious time of Holika Dahan will be from 06:22 pm to 08:50 pm on March 03. At this time, it is considered auspicious to perform puja and burning as per rituals.

flowers and garlands

Complete worship method of Holika Dahan

Take bath in the evening and wear clean and pure clothes.
Go to Holika place with family.
Offer water in front of Holika.
Remember Lord Vishnu and devotees Prahlad.
Offer Roli, Akshat (rice) and flowers.
Wrap raw yarn (Mauli) on Holika.
Offer turmeric, gulal and jaggery.
Offer coconut and wheat or barley.
Light a fire at an auspicious time.
Resolve to surrender your negative thoughts and evils in the fire.

Why is it important to focus on the right direction?

at the time of Holika Dahan Direction is considered to have special importance. If possible, Holika should be burnt facing east or north and even while worshiping, it is considered auspicious to face east. There is a religious belief that worshiping in the right direction brings positive energy and the person gets auspicious results.

Importance of Holika Parikrama

Circumambulating Holika after the puja is considered very auspicious. All the family members together circumambulate at least 3 or 7 times. During this time, taking the name of God, prayers are offered for the happiness, peace and prosperity of the family.

There is a religious belief that circumambulation removes diseases, defects and negative powers. Women especially perform the parikrama with reverence for the protection and well-being of their families.
