Kintoor village of Barabanki is once again in the news amid Iran-Israel tension. According to local families, Khomeini’s family had gone to Iran from Kintoor years ago, but their roots are still said to be connected to this soil of Awadhi.

Let us tell you, the family history of Ruhollah Ayatollah Khomeini is linked to Kintoor village in Barabanki district of Uttar Pradesh. According to family members, Khomeini’s ancestors had settled in the city of Nishapur in Iran from the Awadhi region. Khomeini’s grandfather Syed Ahmed Musavi belonged to Kintoor village.

Let us tell you, according to Syed Nihal Ahmed Kazmi, the ancestors of the Khamenei family came to India from Iran several hundred years ago and then returned back to Iran in the 19th century. It is said that Khomeini’s grandfather Syed Ahmed Musavi, Hindi, went to Karbala Ziarat with the Nawabs of Awadh and from there settled in Khomeini city of Iran, after which his family came to be known as ‘Khomeini’.

There used to be about 550 houses of Khomeini or Musavi family in Kintoor village, which were known as ‘Syedwada’. Over time most of the families settled in other places, and now only five to seven houses remain here. Despite this, the name of this dynasty is still held with respect in the area.

The Khamenei family of Kintoor also played an important role in the establishment of the old Karamat Hussain Muslim Girls Degree College in Lucknow, which is considered to be linked to the history and pride of Barabanki.
