Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei killed in American-Israeli attack, 40 days of mourning announced

New Delhi. Iranian state media has officially confirmed that Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has been killed in joint US and Israeli air strikes on March 1, 2026. After this incident, the Government of Iran has announced 40 days of national mourning and seven days of public holiday in the country.

The attack was carried out on the morning of Saturday, February 28, 2026, targeting Khamenei’s residence and office (compound) in Tehran. US President Donald Trump described it as a major joint operation aimed at destroying Iranian military capabilities and leadership. Netanyahu also issued a statement saying that Khamenei was dead.

Iran initially rejected the claims, but Iran’s state news agencies later confirmed that 86-year-old Khamenei had been “martyred”. According to Israeli officials, his body has been recovered from the debris.

US President Donald Trump posted that Khamenei, one of the worst people in history, has died. He could not escape our intelligence and very advanced tracking systems, and while working closely with Israel, there was nothing he or the other leaders killed with him could do.

He further wrote that this is the biggest opportunity for the Iranian people to take back their country. We are hearing that many of their IRGC, military and other security and police forces no longer want to fight and want immunity from us. As I said last night, ‘They may get immunity now, they will only get death later!’ Hopefully the IRGC and police will peacefully reconcile with Iranian patriots and work together as a unit to return the country to the greatness it deserves.

Trump said that this process should start soon because not only has Khamenei died but the country has been completely ruined and even completely destroyed in just one day. The heavy and precise bombing will continue without interruption throughout the week, or as long as is necessary to achieve our objective of peace in the Middle East and indeed the entire world.
