MS Dhoni kicks off IPL 2026 preparations with first training session in Chennai: Watch
MS Dhoni has started the preparations for IPL 2026 in Chennai. Former captain of Chennai touched landed in the city, and was welcomed by fans, who gathered at the airport hoping to see the cricket legend.
Dhoni went to CSK’s high-performance centre, where he teamed up with captain Ruturaj Gaikwad for a training session in the nets. The batting session displayed Dhoni’s trademark elegance and sharpness. He began with precise off-side drives, followed by solid backfoot pull shots, and finished with some immaculate cut shots. Each shot reflected the composure and mastery that have defined his cricketing career.
Unlike previous years, Dhoni kept his off-field appearance simple. He was seen stepping out of the airport in a maroon round-neck T-shirt and blue jeans, opting for a casual look without any branded attire. Fans and teammates are now eagerly watching as Dhoni gets ready for another IPL season.
Dhoni has also devoted significant time to fitness training in Ranchi, with a clear focus on improving his physical conditioning and getting match-ready for the season that kicks off in late March. Dhoni looked fit and lean, reinforcing his dedication to staying in peak shape, even at 44 years of age.

Before leaving Ranchi, Dhoni took part in a long-standing personal tradition by visiting the Deori Maa Temple in Tamar, around 60 kilometers from the city. He performed a special puja and sought blessings, a ritual he has followed for years.
Dhoni adhered to a strict training routine in Ranchi at the JSCA Stadium. His day typically began at 1:30 PM and included two hours of high-intensity net sessions and match simulations, an hour of strength training, and swimming. He has also switched to a lighter 1.23 kg bat, designed to boost bat speed and control.
