Prepare thandai at home like this and you will forget about cold drinks.
Holi, the festival of colors, will be celebrated across the country on March 4. On this day, people enjoy sweets and cold drinks along with playing with colors. There is a lot of craze for cold drinks and packet thandai available in the market, but due to the high sugar content in them, they can prove to be harmful for health.
These can cause problems like stomach upset, weight gain and fatigue. In such a situation, health experts and experts on home remedies advise to consume traditional home-made Thandai on Holi. It is not only delicious, but is also completely healthy and full of energy. Homemade thandai does not contain any artificial colors, chemicals or excess sugar. Instead, natural ingredients are used in it, which cools the body and removes festival fatigue.
This thandai is easy to make, and is even more fun to make with the family on festival days. The almonds, pistachios and mango seeds present in it are rich in protein and healthy fats, which provide energy. Fennel and cardamom keep digestion healthy, provide cooling effect and saffron improves mood. It is not only delicious in taste, but also benefits the body.
The ingredients required to make thandai include fennel, poppy seeds, black pepper, cardamom, magaj seeds (watermelon, melon, pumpkin seeds), almonds, cashews, pistachios, saffron, rose leaves and sugar. Clean all these things, put water in a bowl and soak for 2-3 hours or overnight. By soaking, they become soft and easy to grind.
Take out the soaked ingredients from water and grind them finely in a mixer. If needed, add some more water and make a paste. Now take cold milk in a big jug. Mix this paste well in it. You can also add sugar or jaggery as per taste. Finally add some rose leaves, saffron threads and ice cubes and serve. If you want, sprinkle chopped almonds, pistachios and cashews on top, which makes it taste and look even better.
