Then why did JNU get enraged? Why did the students go on protest? Know the whole story
Jawaharlal Nehru University located in the country’s capital has once again come into the news due to student protest. JNUSU, the student union of the university, had announced a long march from the campus to the Ministry of Education to protest against various issues related to education. The main objective of this march was to register their displeasure against the implementation of Rohit Act and the new rules of UGC. However, during the demonstration the situation suddenly became tense and a confrontation took place between the security forces and the students.
More than 50 students detained
Apart from Delhi Police, RAF and CRPF personnel were also deployed to control the situation. The police had barricaded the march to stop it from going outside the campus. Despite this, when hundreds of students started moving forward, the police intervened and took more than 50 students into custody. Many videos of this action have also surfaced on social media, in which some students are allegedly seen arguing with the security personnel and expressing anger.
It is also being claimed in some videos that some students were shouting slogans against the police and instigating them to move forward. At the same time, the police say that on the basis of video footage they are trying to identify those people who tried to influence law and order. On the other hand, the student union and the students involved in the protest allege that the police used force to stop the peaceful march, due to which many students were injured.
Why did the students protest?
According to the students, their protest was against the policies of the university administration, budget cuts, action taken against student union officials and new academic rules. During the demonstration, student leaders and representatives of some organizations were also kept in the police station for several hours. Police say that taking out the march outside the campus without permission was a violation of the rules, hence action was taken.
After this entire incident, there is an atmosphere of tension in the campus. On one hand the administration and police are talking about maintaining law and order, while on the other hand the students are adamant on raising their voice for their rights and demands. At present, the police is investigating the matter and further action is being taken on the basis of the video.
