The hero of this victory of Team India was wicketkeeper batsman Sanju Samson. With this, the Indian team has made it to the semi-finals of T20 World Cup 2026. Batting first, the West Indies team scored a huge score of 195 runs at Eden Gardens. In response, the Indian team achieved the score given by West Indies in 19.4 overs with 5 wickets remaining. While chasing the score, India scored 199 runs in 20 overs.

Sanju Samson became the hero of Team India’s victory

Opener Sanju Samson played an important role in this historic victory against West Indies. He remained on the field from the beginning till the team won the match. He played an unbeaten match-winning inning of 97 runs in 50 balls with a brilliant strike rate of 194. Apart from this, no batsman could touch the 50 run mark. However, Tilak Verma provided good support to Sanju Samson by playing an inning of 27 runs in 15 balls. Whereas, captain Suryakumar Yadav scored 18 runs, Hardik Pandya scored 17 runs, Ishan Kishan scored 10 runs and Abhishek Sharma scored 10 runs. Jason Holder and Samar Joseph took 2-2 wickets for West Indies. Apart from this, Akil Hussain took 1 wicket in his name.

West Indies, who came to bat first after losing the toss, had a strong start. Captain Shai Hope and Roston Chase together added 68 runs in 8.5 overs for the first wicket. Hope scored 32 runs in 33 balls, while Chase faced a brilliant inning of 40 runs in 25 balls. Shimron Hetmyer made a good start, but he could not convert the good start into a big innings. Hetmyer was out after scoring 27 runs in 12 balls.

Half-century partnership of Holder and Powell

However, Sherfane Rutherford could not show anything special with the bat and he became the victim of Hardik Pandya after scoring 14 runs in 9 balls. After Rutherford returned to the pavilion, Rovman Powell and Jason Holder took charge and made an important partnership of 76 runs in just 35 balls for the fifth wicket. Holder played an unbeaten inning of 37 runs facing 22 balls. In this innings he hit 2 fours and three sixes. At the same time, Powell scored unbeaten 34 runs in just 19 balls playing at a strike rate of 178.
