Cabinet Committee on Security Reviews West Asia Tensions After Iran Air Strike and Gulf Attacks

The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) met on Sunday evening under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to conduct a detailed review of the evolving situation in West Asia.

The high-level meeting was convened amid escalating tensions in the region and recent missile attacks. The CCS undertook a comprehensive assessment of regional security developments, the safety of Indian nationals, and the potential economic implications for India.

Members were briefed on the air strike reported in Iran on 28 February and the subsequent escalation of violence across West Asia. According to reports presented during the meeting, following the incident, attacks were also recorded in several Gulf countries, including the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Bahrain, contributing to instability in the regional security environment.

Security agencies apprised the CCS of ground-level developments, potential risks, and emerging strategic challenges. The government reviewed India’s significant strategic and economic interests in West Asia and noted that the situation is being closely monitored.

The meeting was attended by Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, senior national security officials, and representatives of the armed forces. The stated objective of the meeting was to assess the prevailing situation in West Asia and to ensure the protection of India’s strategic interests.

The presence of a large Indian diaspora in Gulf countries was discussed, with concern expressed regarding the safety and security of Indian nationals residing in the region. The CCS directed the concerned ministries to coordinate with local authorities and Indian missions to ensure the safety of expatriate Indians.

Discussions also covered measures to minimize potential disruptions for Indian citizens traveling in the region, including business travelers and students appearing for examinations. The government stated that emergency assistance and consular support would be made available immediately, if required.
