Field of loyalty divided in Pakistan, Awam with Iran, Munir with America, ruckus on the streets

The joint military attack on Iran by Israel and America on Saturday has made the situation extremely tense in the entire West Asia. The conflict in the region intensified after the news of the death of Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in this attack came to light. After Khamenei’s death, Iran immediately retaliated by launching missile attacks on Israel and also targeted US military bases in UAE, Bahrain and Kuwait.

Protest in Pakistan and Iraq

After this incident, reaction is being seen not only in the Middle East but also in many other countries. Especially in Pakistan and Iraq, people of Shia community have started large scale protests. Protests turned violent in many areas of Pakistan including major cities Islamabad, Lahore and Skardu. The protesters raised anti-American slogans and damaged government and foreign properties at many places.

The situation worsened when protesters attacked the offices associated with the US Embassy. During this period, incidents of vandalism and arson came to light. To control the situation, security forces had to intervene and incidents of firing also took place. So far, 35 people have been reported dead in these clashes, while many others have been injured. In view of the continuously worsening situation, the US Embassy has canceled all appointments related to visa and citizen services and has issued a warning to its citizens to remain alert.

There is an atmosphere of mourning in the entertainment world of Pakistan due to the death of Khamenei. Famous TV host Rabia Anam became emotional during the live programme, while actress Yumna Zaidi described it as a deep shock on social media.

People of Pakistan are in support of Iran

Meanwhile, while the people of Pakistan have openly come out in support of Iran, the stance of Army Chief Asim Munir is believed to be in favor of America. On the other hand, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed concern over the violation of international laws. He said that targeting the top leadership of a country even during war is a serious issue. However, he did not directly criticize America. This entire incident has further increased instability at the regional and global level.
