Another bridge collapsed in Bihar, bridge worth Rs 2.89 crore broken from the middle even before completion

The incidents of bridge collapse in Bihar are not stopping. Now a new case has come from Gopalganj district, where a part of the bridge being built suddenly collapsed. This bridge was being built on Ghoghari river in Sidhwalia block. It is a matter of relief that there were no casualties in the accident but questions are being raised regarding this project worth crores of rupees.

 

According to reports, this small bridge, which is being built under the supervision of the State Rural Affairs Department, has cost about Rs 2.87 crore. The construction of the bridge was not even completed when a part of it suddenly collapsed. Local people said that concerns had been raised earlier also about the quality of the bridge.

Action will be taken against assistant and junior engineer

On receiving information about the incident, District Magistrate Pawan Kumar Sinha reached the spot and ordered an immediate investigation. Initial investigation found that the concerned assistant engineer and junior engineer were not able to properly monitor the construction work. Following this, the District Magistrate has ordered strict departmental action against both the officers. Which includes suspension and service termination.

 

Apart from this, the contractor constructing the bridge has also been ordered to be blacklisted. The investigation revealed that quality standards and prescribed protocols were not followed properly during construction. The administration says that strict action will be taken against the culprits so that such incidents can be prevented in future.

The process of bridge collapse is not stopping in Bihar

Collapse of bridges has become a common phenomenon in Bihar in the last few years. Such incidents happening continuously have raised serious questions on the quality of construction works, monitoring system and accountability.

  • June 2024: The bridge collapsed even before its inauguration in Sikti, Araria.
  • June-August 2023: The famous Sultanpur-Aguwani Ghat bridge of Bhagalpur got submerged in river Ganga twice.
  • Year 2024: Till now, more than a dozen small and big bridges have been destroyed.
