Big relief for EPF account holders: Government gave good news

New Delhi. The Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has decided to maintain the interest rate on EPF at 8.25 percent for the financial year 2025-26. According to this decision, the same rate will be applicable on all contributions deposited from April 1, 2025 to March 31, 2026. Last year also interest was given at the same rate. This decision has increased the confidence of lakhs of employees in getting safe and predictable returns.

EPF rate trend in last few years

There has been a slight decline in the interest rate of EPF in the last ten years. In the year 2015-16 it was 8.8 percent, which gradually stabilized at 8.25 percent. This rate had fallen to 8.10 percent in March 2022, which was the lowest in the last several decades.

However, despite this, EPF is still counted among the most reliable and risk-free investment options. The interest rate was increased from 8.15 percent to 8.25 percent in the financial year 2023-24, and now it has been kept unchanged for 2025-26. This stability gives employees confidence even amidst economic uncertainties.

Final approval of Finance Ministry pending

After the decision of CBT (Central Board of Trustees), it is yet to get the approval of the Finance Ministry. As soon as the government’s permission is received, this interest rate will be implemented in the accounts of more than seven crore EPF account holders.

Experts believe that in the current economic situation, the rate of 8.25 percent provides balanced and safe returns for the employees. With this move, account holders can easily plan investments and ensure financial stability for the future.
