IND vs ENG: What Happened The Last Time India Faced England In ICC T20 World Cup?
The last time India and England clashed in the men’s T20 World Cup was in the semi-final of the 2024 edition in Providence Stadium, Guyana. Two years ago, Rohit Sharma’s team whipped Jos Buttler’s side in the semi-final by a huge difference of 68 runs, with Axar Patel grabbing the Player of the Match award for his 3/23.
Captain Rohit’s 57 and Suryakumar Yadav’s 47 helped India post an above-par total of 171. England couldn’t get going in their chase, getting bundled for only 103 runs. Axar and Kuldeep took three wickets each, while Bumrah claimed two scalps.
India progressed to the final, where they beat South Africa to clinch the trophy.
This victory for India was their revenge over England for the 10-wicket bashing that Buttler and Alex Hales handed to Rohit’s side in the semi-final of the 2022 T20 World Cup in Adelaide.
IND vs ENG: India vs England head-to-head record in ICC T20 World Cup
India and England have met five times in the men’s T20 World Cup so far, with India winning three matches and losing two.
The first meeting between India and England in the T20 World Cup remains one of the most famous games: it was in this fixture that Yuvraj Singh smashed six sixes to Stuart Broad.
In the next India vs England T20 World Cup encounter, which was hosted at Lord’s in 2009, Paul Collingwood’s team prevailed by a mere margin of 3 runs as they successfully defended their total of 153.
The two faced off in the 2012 T20 World Cup in Colombo, where India registered a convincing 90-run win courtesy of a fifty from Rohit Sharma and a terrific spell of 4/12 from Harbhajan Singh.
It took a decade for India and England to collide again in the T20 World Cup. India succumbed to an embarrassing 10-wicket defeat against the marauding England white-ball unit in Adelaide, as Buttler and Hales made a mockery of India’s score of 168.
Two years later in Guyana, India took their revenge as Rohit’s team marched onto an unbeaten run in the 2024 T20 World Cup, en route swatting England by 68 runs in the semi-final.
This Thursday, India and England will clash for the third consecutive men’s T20 World Cup semi-final.
