Will Tejashwi contest Rajya Sabha elections? What is the numbers game for 5th seat in Bihar, with which strategy will RJD defeat NDA?

Bihar Politics: In the elections for the five Rajya Sabha seats of Bihar, four seats seem to be going easily to the NDA’s account. However, if the opposition comes into the field unitedly, it can win one seat. Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has started making political strategy for the fifth seat, but Union Minister Chirag Paswan has made the contest interesting by claiming that NDA will win all the five seats. In such a situation, the question is arising that despite being behind in numbers, what strategy will RJD try to win?

The current situation of the Assembly has completely changed the mathematics of Rajya Sabha elections. Out of the five seats where elections are being held, two seats are from RJD quota, whose tenure is expiring. The party is not in a position to win even a single seat on its own, yet it has decided to show its full strength. It was decided in the party meeting that RJD will definitely contest the elections. Former Union Minister Kanti Singh also confirmed this.

On the other hand, the legislature party meeting of Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) was held in Patna under the chairmanship of Chirag Paswan, in which all 19 MLAs resolved to make the NDA candidate victorious. Before this, Janata Dal (United) has also claimed victory on all five seats. It is clear that NDA is in the mood for a clean sweep, while the opposition is making a strategy to win at least one seat.

fifth seat number game

In the 243-member Bihar Assembly, the NDA has 202 MLAs, while the Grand Alliance has only 35 MLAs. To win a Rajya Sabha seat, the support of 41 MLAs is necessary. According to this mathematics, NDA can easily win four seats with the help of 164 votes. After that it will be left with 38 MLAs and three additional votes will be needed for the fifth seat.

At the same time, the Grand Alliance has 35 MLAs, which means for one seat it will have to gather the support of six more MLAs. If he gets the support of six MLAs of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) and one MLA of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), the contest could be a tie.

What is RJD’s strategy?

RJD has 25 MLAs. Despite the support of Congress and Left parties, the total number is only 35, which is less than the required figure. Despite this, the party has announced to contest the elections. AIMIM state president Akhtarul Iman had met Tejashwi Yadav and talked about his candidature for Rajya Sabha. In the RJD parliamentary party meeting, Tejashwi Yadav was authorized to decide the candidate from the opposition.

There is talk that Tejashwi Yadav himself may contest the Rajya Sabha elections. Although he has not taken the final decision yet, the situation will become clear only after talks with allies. It is believed that if Tejashwi himself enters the field then opposition unity can be strengthened.

Conflict over fifth seat

The contest for the fifth seat seems to be interesting. Chirag Paswan has claimed victory for NDA. If NDA fields a candidate on the fifth seat, it will need three additional votes. For this, BJP and JDU will have to maintain the support of their allies like Jitan Ram Manjhi and Upendra Kushwaha’s party.

It will be important who BJP and JDU give a chance to on the fifth seat after sending two members each from their respective quotas. Upendra Kushwaha’s tenure is ending, hence he is also being considered as a contender. Manjhi and Chirag Paswan’s party is also eyeing this seat. Overall, the Rajya Sabha elections of Bihar have become very interesting and of strategic importance this time.
