Adjoa Andoh’s Lady Danbury Future on Bridgerton Gets Much Needed Answer

The Bridgerton Season 4 finale left fans speculating about Adjoa Andoh‘s Lady Danbury‘s future in the period romantic drama and wondering whether she’s leaving the show. This was after the fan-favorite character bid farewell to her closest friend, Queen Charlotte, and set off on her global trip. The showrunner has now offered some much-needed clarity about her future on the series, assuring there’s nothing to worry about and that Danbury’s departure wasn’t permanent.

Adjoa Andoh’s Lady Danbury is not leaving Bridgerton in Season 5

In a recent interview, Jess Brownell confirmed that Lady Danbury will return in Bridgerton Season 5, where she will have a major role.

The showrunner stressed to The Wrap that Danbury’s departure was not about trimming her presence on the show but “shaking up the dynamic.” Pointing to Benedict and Sophie’s courtship marked by a sizable power dynamic between the pair, she stressed that the show wanted to “examine relationships in which there’s a power imbalance.”

“Now that Danbury and the queen have been through their conflict this season, I think going forward, the queen is going to be able to see Danbury much more as a peer,” she added. “It allows us to put Alice in sort of the service lady in waiting role in storylines, and allow Danbury to just be an actual friend to the Queen.”

Brownell also addressed the possibility of a spin-off centered around Lady Danbury, speculations about which stemmed from the character’s global journey and intention to visit her ancestral home in Sierra Leone. She said that discussions about spin-offs always took place, but that she would let executive producer, Shonda Rhimes, handle it. “I’m so focused on ‘Bridgerton’ and hoping to see all eight siblings stories told that I try not to meddle in spinoffs,” she added. “But I would definitely love to be a viewer of a Lady Danbury spinoff — or any of these characters really.”

The showrunner earlier revealed that Danbury’s departure primarily focused on the resolution of her and Queen Charlotte’s character arc, wherein the former prioritized herself. She teased that when fans saw Danbury next, she would have “a slightly different relationship” with the latter (via Tumdu).
