Holi 2026: More Gujiya has been made for Holi, so store it like this…
Holi 2026: Gujiya made on the occasion of Holi is not just a sweet, but a confluence of tradition and taste. As soon as the name of Holi comes, it is quite natural to remember the colors as well as the crisp, aromatic Gujiya. Many times, during festivals, we make large quantities of Gujiyas, but if they are not stored properly, all the hard work can go waste. Let us know easy and effective ways to keep Gujiya fresh, crisp and safe for a long time.
Let the Gujiya cool completely
Do not immediately close the Gujiya in a box after frying. First let them cool completely at room temperature. Even slight heat can create moisture, which can make the gujiya soft.
use airtight containers
Always keep Gujiya in an airtight container. Steel or food-grade plastic containers last better. The container should be absolutely dry.
Place tissue or butter paper between layers
If you are storing large quantity of Gujiyas then place butter paper or tissue paper between each layer. This absorbs excess moisture and the Gujiya does not stick.
Keep in cool and dry place
Keep the container away from sunlight and moisture. Avoid keeping it near gas or sink in the kitchen. Gujiya can remain good for 10–15 days at normal temperature (if the filling is dry).
When to refrigerate?
If there is more mawa (khoya) in Gujiya, then it is better to keep them in the refrigerator in hot weather. Pack them airtight before keeping them in the fridge. Take it out for 10–15 minutes before eating, so that the taste and texture returns.
How to store for a long time
If you want to preserve the Gujiya for months, then lightly double fry the Gujiya, this reduces the moisture. Cool completely and fill in an airtight container. If desired, store in the freezer. After taking out from the freezer, heat it slightly in the oven or in a pan.
