First kept scrolling, then gave all the answers correctly, another Vyapam scam in MP?

The case of irregularities in government recruitment examinations has once again come to light in Madhya Pradesh. This time the matter is of an examination center in Ratlam, where such digital manipulation has been detected during the Excise Constable Recruitment Examination 2024, which is considered to be the most serious case after the Vyapam scam. In a report by NDTV, it has been claimed from several documents that the entire scam took place with the help of technical software and CCTV.

Media reports also revealed that the computer monitors of certain candidates were changed just before the commencement of the examination. According to the IT report of the Staff Selection Board (ESB), the behavior of the 12 candidates found suspicious was extremely strange.

What was found in ESB investigation?

According to the ESB report, these 12 candidates simply scrolled through the entire question paper in the first 10-15 minutes and then, after sitting quietly for a long time, started answering all the questions correctly without stopping in the last few minutes. The board has recorded this as a high strike rate anomaly.

monitor replacement

CCTV footage showed that just before some candidates sat down at the examination center, the screens flickered black and the monitors were changed. These candidates hailing from Bhind, Morena and Haryana did not solve any questions initially but later gave correct answers to very difficult questions in a very short time.

Apart from the candidates, presence of another person inside the lab was also seen in the CCTV, who was probably involved in operating the system from outside or providing help.

Which candidates were affected?

Some specific names and their suspicious methods have been mentioned in the investigation report. Technical changes were seen in the systems of candidates like Ashutosh, Vivek Sharma, Subhash Singh and Ankit Singh from Bhind and Morena during the examination. Some of them had scored 85 to 88 marks.

A sudden jump in marks was seen in the answer sheets of Kuldeep and Sanjeet of Haryana as well as Ravi Kumar of Agra. One candidate, Shailendra Bohre, walked out of the lab midway through the exam and after coming back, he saw a huge increase in his marks.

Legal action and further investigation

Zero FIR has been registered under Section 318(4) of the Indian Judicial Code on the complaint of Praneet Sijariya, System Analyst, Staff Selection Board (ESB). This case has now been handed over to Ratlam Police. The Board has not only canceled the candidature of these 12 candidates but has also recommended criminal action.

This matter is also serious because now instead of using fake candidates for cheating, digital systems and screens are being directly tampered with. The police are now investigating to what extent the examination center employees and technical staff were involved in this game.
