Smriti Mandhana becomes top-ranked women’s batter in ODIs

New Delhi: Star India opener Smriti Mandhana annexed the top spot in women’s ODI batting rankings through fine performances in India’s recent three-match series against Australia.

The left hander scored 58 and 31 to accumulate 790 points and be placed above South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt (782), who could wrestle it back in their series against New Zealand across March and April.

Making a century in her farewell match in the third ODI against India, Australia’s Alyssa Healy retired in the fourth spot with 744 points, behind team-mates Beth Mooney (749) and Ashleigh Gardner (724).

India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur is the second Indian inside the top 10, at the ninth spot while Jemimah Rodrigues is placed 12th.

India were whitewashed in the series but with scores of 53, 54 and 25 Harmanpreet (652) jumped four spots to enter the top 10.

Deepti lone bright spot among bowlers

Among the bowlers, Deepti Sharma is the highest ranked Indian at the 10th position as Australia’s Alana King (775) ended England’s Sophie Ecclestone’s four-year reign the top of the bowling rankings.

Gardner occupies the third spot and is among four Aussies with King, Annabel Sutherland (fifth), Megan Schutt (seventh) and Kim Garth (eighth) to be ranked in the top 10.

Gardner (516) also is the top-ranked all-rounder in ODIs, well ahead of West Indies Hayley Matthews (418).

Sutherland (408) made up by two slots in the all-rounder rankings, while Georgia Voll (534) vaulted 23 spots to 34th in the batting rankings after averaging 54 in the three ODIs against India.

Deepti is fifth in the all-rounders rankings.
