Smriti Mandhana’s blast in ICC rankings, becomes number-1 ODI batsman; Australian bowler also amazing
Big changes were seen in the rankings after the Australia-India series, South Africa-Pakistan match and New Zealand-Zimbabwe T20 series.
Smriti Mandhana ODI ranking: A big change has been seen in the latest ICC (International Cricket Council) rankings of women’s cricket. India’s star opener Smriti Mandhana has become the world number-1 batsman in the new ODI rankings released on Tuesday (February 3).
Mandhana left South African captain Laura Walwart behind by scoring 790 rating points. Although both have the same 790 points, Mandhana has reached the top position based on her recent performance.
He played innings of 58 and 31 runs in the ODI series against Australia, which proved to be decisive in taking him to the number-1 rank. At the same time, Laura Walwart will get a chance to regain the top position in the series against New Zealand in March-April.
King broke Ecclestone’s four-year dominance
Australia’s leg spinner Alana King has created history in the bowling rankings. With 775 rating points, she reached the number-1 ranking among ODI bowlers for the first time. This is also the best ranking of his career.
King took 7 wickets in three ODI matches at an average of 16.71. In the third ODI, he performed brilliantly with 4/33 in 10 overs, helping the host team win by 185 runs.
With this performance, she ended England’s star spinner Sophie Ecclestone’s almost four-year long dominance at number 1.
Australia’s series win and Healy’s departure
Australia lost two of the first three T20 matches played at home, but won the ODI series 3–0. Beth Mooney, Ash Gardner and captain Alyssa Healy had important contributions in the team’s victory.
Alyssa Healy scored a brilliant century in her last ODI match and ended her ODI career by finishing fourth with 744 rating points. Above her is Beth Mooney (749 points), while Ash Gardner is below her with 724 points.
Despite losing the series 0-3, Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur gained in individual rankings. Thanks to innings of 53, 54 and 25 runs, she moved up four places to ninth position with 652 points.
Even after the ODI series between South Africa and Pakistan, the ranking of many players improved. Pakistan’s Sadia Iqbal moved up five places to 14th position with 583 points. Fatima Sana jumped five places in the all-rounder rankings and reached 15th position with 180 points.
