Knews Desk– BJP has released the first list of its candidates for the Rajya Sabha elections 2026. The party has approved the names of a total of nine candidates from six states.
The party has fielded two leaders from Bihar, including Nitin Naveen and Shivesh Kumar. Terash Gowala and Jogen Mohan have been made candidates from Assam. The party has elected Lakshmi Verma from Chhattisgarh to the Rajya Sabha. Sanjay Bhatia has been given the ticket from Haryana. In Odisha, the party has announced two names of state president Manmohan Samal and Sujit Kumar. Rahul Sinha has been made the candidate from West Bengal.
Nomination deadline nears
The nomination process for the Rajya Sabha elections is now in the final stages. Voting is proposed on March 16 for 37 seats in 10 states, including five seats in Bihar. In Bihar, the notification was issued on 26 February and the last date for nomination has been fixed as 5 March. Due to Holi holiday, candidates have limited time left for nomination.
Tough competition in Bihar
A direct contest is being considered between the NDA and the Grand Alliance on five seats in Bihar. The members whose tenure is ending in April include Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh, Union Ministers Ramnath Thakur, Premchandra Gupta, Amarendra Dhari Singh and Upendra Kushwaha. These include Harivansh and Ramnath Thakur from JDU, Premchandra Gupta and Amarendra Dhari Singh from Rashtriya Janata Dal, while Upendra Kushwaha represents Rashtriya Lok Morcha.
Looking at the current numerical strength in the Assembly, it is almost certain that NDA will win four out of five seats. Manipulations are going on regarding the fifth seat. According to sources, Ramnath Thakur’s name can be put forward again by JDU. If he reaches Rajya Sabha for the third time, it will be a new record in the history of the party, because till now there has been no tradition of giving more than two terms. In political circles, now all eyes are on the last date of nomination and possible equations.
