Iran fired more than 170 missiles and more than 600 drones, UAE destroyed them
Abu Dhabi. The tension in the war that has been going on in West Asia for the last four days reached its peak on Tuesday, as Iran fired a large number of missiles and drone attacks on the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The UAE Defense Ministry said that since the beginning, it has destroyed a total of 174 ballistic missiles and 689 drones in the air, while some missiles fell in the sea and some drones fell within the country’s border.
According to the Defense Ministry of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the country’s air defense system successfully destroyed 161 ballistic missiles, 8 cruise missiles and 645 drones, while some of the remaining devices fell on the sea or land without causing major damage.
Although most of the missiles were intercepted by defense systems, there were reports of fires and minor damage due to falling fragments in Dubai’s Palm Jumeirah, Burj Al Arab and some industrial areas of Abu Dhabi.
UAE authorities have confirmed that at least three people, including a Pakistani, a Nepali and a Bangladeshi national, have been killed in the missile‑drone strikes. Apart from this, about 58 people have been injured across the country, which includes Indians and people from many other countries. Most of the injured included minor injuries and several people were admitted to hospital.
The UAE’s defense and foreign ministries strongly condemned the attacks, calling them a “violation of national sovereignty” and a “blatant disregard for international law.” At the same time, amid increasing tension, UAE closed its embassy in Tehran and recalled its diplomatic staff.
These attacks have been carried out during the escalating war between the US and Israel on Iran, in which Iran in “retaliation” targeted air bases and strategic targets of countries near the Gulf with missiles and drones.
During this time, reports of missiles and drone attacks are also coming from other Gulf countries including Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait. Due to this, many airports and commercial activities are being affected and many air routes have been adjusted or temporarily closed.
The UAE government has urged the public to exercise restraint, trust official sources and avoid rumours. Officials say that the security situation in the country is under control and all vigilance has been increased.
