Guwahati, March 3. Congress has released the first list of 42 candidates even before the schedule for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections is announced. Assam Congress president and MP Gaurav Gogoi will contest from Jorhat assembly constituency. Meanwhile, Congress Legislature Party leader Debabrata Saikia will contest from Nazira seat in the upcoming state assembly elections.
State assembly elections possible in April-May
It is noteworthy that elections for the 126-seat assembly are possible in the state in April-May this year. The Election Commission of India (ECI) is expected to announce the assembly election schedule soon. Whereas the main opposition party Congress is confident of its victory on at least 46 assembly seats (LAC) in the state.

Muslim voters on 19 seats 50 more than percent
There are 19 seats in the state where Muslim voters are more than 50 percent and 15 of these seats have more than 90 percent Muslim voters. In this sequence, two members of the election screening committee of All India Congress Committee, MPs Imran Masood and Saptagiri Shankar Ulka have gone on a tour of many districts of Assam. The purpose of these tours is to review organizational preparedness and hold grassroots consultations with party workers, potential candidates and community representatives.

Imran Masood began his tour in Ho Jai on Tuesday, where he met district and block level leaders, prospective candidates, sitting and former MLAs and MPs, representatives of organizations and media persons.
From Hojai, Masood reached Donkamokam in West Karbi Anglong district, where he met local party leaders and organization representatives. On Wednesday he will attend a meeting in Haflong and then return to Delhi.
