Iran-Israel War: Iran Warns to Close Hormuz; War on the Oil Route

Iran-Israeli War: The escalating conflict between Iran and Israel and the US has taken a new and very dangerous turn. Iran’s powerful military, the Revolutionary Guards, has announced the complete closure of the Strait of Hormuz. The threat, which comes in the wake of tensions after Khamenei’s death, has rattled global markets. The army has given a clear warning that ships passing through this route will be immediately set on fire.

The Strait of Hormuz is considered the world’s energy lifeline, as it transports a fifth of the world’s oil. This narrow strait connects the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and is a major oil route for Arab countries. If this route is closed, the oil supply to countries like Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Iraq could be completely disrupted.

Experts believe that any military move on this waterway could lead to a major world war. Iran and Oman control the region, and the passage of merchant ships through it is subject to international law. Earlier in February, oil prices rose significantly by 6 percent due to military exercises.

Brigadier General Sardar Ibrahim Jabari has clarified that his guards will now closely monitor the route. Speaking to the state media, he said that whoever tries to cross the country will face the consequences. This is the first time Iran has officially announced such a complete blockade since the 1980 tanker war.

This decision will have a serious impact on oil and gas supply to many Asian countries including China. Although Saudi Arabia has some alternative pipelines, they are not sufficient to handle all oil exports. This situation could be disastrous for the global economy, as the risk of acute fuel shortages is high.

In Iran, the Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) is now becoming more powerful and independent from the government. Amid the ongoing military conflict between the US and Israel, the organization is making many strategic military decisions on its own. The whole world is now focusing on this waterway, as the smoke billowing from it signals the approach of a world war.
