Sonia Gandhi has written an article in the English newspaper Indian Express. Sonia Gandhi wrote, “On March 1, Iran confirmed that its Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Hosseini Khamenei had been assassinated a day earlier in a targeted attack by the US and Israel. The assassination of a sitting head of state amid ongoing negotiations between the two sides highlights a major chasm in today’s international relations. Yet, beyond the shock of this incident, New Delhi’s silence is equally shocking.”

‘Questions about credibility of foreign policy’

Targeting the central government’s silence, Sonia Gandhi wrote, “The Government of India has refrained from condemning the killing or the violation of Iranian sovereignty. Initially, ignoring the US-Israeli attack, the Prime Minister limited himself to condemning Iran’s retaliatory attack on the UAE and said nothing about the events that preceded it. Later, he expressed some deep concern and also referred to dialogue and diplomatic diplomacy – which the US and was well underway before Israel’s massive unprovoked attacks.”

Sonia Gandhi wrote, “When our country does not invoke sovereignty or international law after the targeted assassination of a foreign leader and abandons impartiality, it raises serious concerns about the direction and credibility of our foreign policy. In this case silence is not neutral. The assassination occurred without a formal declaration of war and in the midst of ongoing diplomatic efforts. Article 2(4) of the UN Charter prohibits the use or threat of force against the territorial sovereignty or political independence of any country.” It is forbidden to use. Targeted assassination of a sitting head of state is completely against these principles. If such acts are done without objection in principle, the decay of international principles is common.” Sonia Gandhi has also written this.
