India’s First Maruti Suzuki Jimny With Air Suspension Is Here

The Maruti Suzuki Jimny is one, if not the most capable lifestyle 4X4 SUVs in India currently on sale. Now, to make this SUV even more capable and fun to drive on off-road terrains, a lot of people do unique modifications. Recently, a video of one such unique modification – a fully adaptable air suspension setup – has been added to this particular Jimny, of which a detailed video has been shared online.

India’s only Jimny with air suspension

The video showing the Maruti Suzuki Jimny with a completely new air suspension setup has been shared on YouTube by Adven 4X4 on their channel. It starts off with the vlogger mentioning that they have brought their Jimny, which is India’s first Jimny with a fully adaptable air suspension setup. And along with it, they have also brought a stock Jimny for comparison.

Following this, the host then starts talking about the air suspension setup in this particular Jimny. He mentions that this setup is from a company named Airbag Man from Australia, which has been making air suspension systems for over 30 years. As for the airbags used in this vehicle, they are produced by Firestone Airbags, which is also a leading manufacturer of air suspensions.

Moving ahead, he explains that the entire OEM coil spring setup of this Jimny has been removed and it has been replaced with airbags on all four corners. The host also highlights that this was possible as the Jimny comes with a separate shock absorber and coil spring layout instead of a strut assembly. Talking about the capacity of each airbag, he mentions that each airbag can handle 600 kg of weight at 100 PSI and 430 kg at 80 PSI, which is the normal operating pressure.

With the help of this air suspension setup, the height of the Jimny can be adjusted to four levels. The first is the stock height, where there is no lift. Then there is the 20 mm lift setting, 40 mm lift setting, and 60 mm lift setting. As per the host, the 60 mm or 3-inch lift setting is only for clearing large obstacles, and it is advised not to drive regularly on this setting.

Apart from the air suspension setup, this particular Jimny has been given caster correction bushes, brake extension mounts, crossmember kits, panhard extension kits, and bump stop kits to ensure that the geometry and durability of the air suspension extend for a longer period of time.

Coming to the control settings of the air suspension of this Jimny, the host highlights that each airbag can be controlled individually and can be inflated and deflated. Additionally, there are displays of PSI in each airbag. To facilitate the filling of air into the airbags, an ARB air compressor has been added, which can be used to inflate tyres as well. He adds that all the tubing for the air suspension setup has been done underneath the vehicle, and all lines are connected by solenoids.

Other modifications done on this Jimny

Apart from the air suspension setup, this particular Maruti Suzuki Jimny has been given a set of 17-inch alloy wheels, which have 265/65 section tyres. This tyre setup also significantly improves ground clearance and offers a much more aggressive stance and better off-road grip. It also gets an ARB bull bar, 8,000 lb Warn Evo winch, ARB base roof rack, and ARB rock sliders.

The host in the video mentions that the Maruti Suzuki Jimny offers a plush, stable, and controlled driving experience with reduced body roll and minimal shock in both on- and off-road conditions. It also takes on rough terrains very confidently and offers adjustable stiffness along with improved ground clearance. The stock Jimny, in comparison, feels very bouncy and has more body movement.
