Good news for farmers in UP: New record in paddy purchase

Lucknow. This Kharif season has registered a new achievement for the farmers in Uttar Pradesh. The government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath created a new record in paddy procurement in the Kharif purchasing season of 2025-26. This year the government had set a target of purchasing 60 lakh metric tons of paddy, but 62.30 lakh metric tons of paddy was purchased from farmers.

In lieu of this purchase, approximately Rs 14,886.35 crore was immediately paid into the bank accounts of farmers through DBT. This system not only eliminated the role of middlemen but also facilitated the farmers to get money on time.

Purchase and Payment Details

Total number of farmers: 10,53,561

Total paddy purchase: 62,30,735.63 metric tons

Total Payment Amount: Rs 14,886.35 crore

Purchasing Centre: 4869

The process of purchasing paddy was completely transparent. The price of common paddy was fixed at Rs 2369 per quintal and the price of Grade A was fixed at Rs 2389 per quintal. Making payment to farmers within 48 hours was a major achievement this year.

Registration and Kharif Process

A total of 12,82,892 farmers registered for paddy sale. OTP based single registration system was implemented this year, making the process simple and secure for farmers. Paddy procurement in western Uttar Pradesh and Hardoi, Lakhimpur Kheri, Sitapur districts was completed by January 31, while in other districts the process ended by February 28.

Progress compared to last year

Last year (2024-25), 57,70,671 metric tonnes of paddy was purchased from 7,97,500 farmers in Uttar Pradesh and Rs 13,370.17 crore was paid. This year, not only has there been an increase in procurement and payment but the facilities reaching the farmers have also improved. This initiative of Uttar Pradesh government has set a new standard in the interest of farmers. Timely payment and transparent process has increased the trust and confidence of the farmers of the state.
