BJP announced names of 4 candidates including Vinod Tawde, Ramdas Athawale from Maharashtra for Rajya Sabha elections.
Maharashtra: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced the names of four candidates for the Rajya Sabha elections from Maharashtra. These include big names like party’s National General Secretary Vinod Tawde and Union Minister Ramdas Athawale.
This decision has been taken in view of BJP’s strong position in Maharashtra Assembly, where the party is likely to get four seats on the basis of alliance. Voting for seven Rajya Sabha seats will be held on March 16.

Vinod Tawde: Experienced leader and National General Secretary
Vinod Tawde is the national general secretary of BJP and has played the role of in-charge in many important elections of the party. He has made important contribution in achieving victory in various states. Tawde started with student politics and now has a strong hold on the central level of the party. By sending him to Rajya Sabha, BJP wants to further strengthen its national image.
Ramdas Athawale: Symbol of poetry and social justice
Ramdas Athawale is the President of the Republican Party of India and Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment in the Modi government. All parties in the House listen to him for his poetry. He has a good hold among the Dalit community and BJP considers him important for the strength of the alliance. Athawale is already a Rajya Sabha member and has now been nominated again.
Mayatai Iwanate: New identity of tribal woman leader
Mayatai Ivanate is the former mayor of Nagpur and comes from the tribal community. She has been a teacher and has come into politics from an ordinary background. Earlier also she had been a member of the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST). Recently she was elected corporator. BJP has tried to increase its reach among the tribal class by making him a candidate.
