A jet operated by Singapore Airlines struck the tail of another aircraft while taxiing at Newark Liberty International Airport on March 3, causing a delay of more than six hours but no injuries.
The incident occurred at around 10 a.m. local time at Terminal B, when both planes were preparing for departure, according to U.S. media outlet CBS News.
The Spirit aircraft was parked and undergoing de-icing at the time.
According to ABC 7 Newsthe right wing of the Singapore Airlines jet clipped the tail of the stationary plane.
Singapore Airlines said the wing tip of the Airbus A350-900 operating Flight SQ21 made contact with another aircraft during pushback, The Straits Times reported.
The carrier confirmed that there were no injuries.
The aircraft returned to the gate safely and passengers were disembarked.
Meals and refreshments were provided while engineers carried out inspections.
After checks were completed, the plane was cleared to resume service.
Flight SQ21 eventually departed Newark at 4:09 p.m., six hours and 34 minutes behind schedule, with a new set of pilots and cabin crew.
The Federal Aviation Administration said the contact took place in an area without air traffic control, meaning controllers were not directing aircraft movements at the time.
