Records broken even before the knockout… How many people watched T20 WC 2026 in India?
ICC T20 World Cup 2026 knockout matches are starting from today (4th March). The first semi-final match between South Africa and New Zealand will be played at Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata from 7 pm onwards. The Indian team will face England in the second semi-final. This match will be held on Thursday (5 March) at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The final will be played on March 8. These knockout matches are expected to get record viewership. However, even before the start of the knockout matches, T20 World Cup 2026 has broken all viewership records in India.
This information has been given by ICC Chairman Jai Shah. Jay Shah has tweeted that the viewership of this tournament in India has crossed 500 million (50 crores). Before this, no T20 World Cup had received so much viewership in India. Even when Team India became champion in the last edition, its record has also been broken. The peak viewership of the tournament’s official streaming platform JioHotstar has reached 60.5 million.

ICC’s targets met
ICC, the governing body of world cricket, had set some targets in terms of viewership before the start of the tournament and it was successful in achieving them. Shah wrote on X, ‘The journey of the ICC T20 World Cup started with the goal of making it a global and accessible cricket event. I am happy that the viewership of this event in India has crossed 500 million, the highest number so far in the history of any T20 World Cup.
He further wrote, ‘It is very happy to see that the peak viewership of JioHotstar has reached 60.5 million. The knockout matches of the tournament are starting tonight and we hope that the immense love this event receives from Indian fans will help in creating more records.
