Lok Sabha Speaker reconstituted the Privileges Committee
New Delhi. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Tuesday reconstituted the Privileges Committee of Parliament and announced the appointment of 15 new members. This committee will be headed by senior BJP leader and former Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad. According to the bulletin issued by the Lok Sabha Secretariat, members from various political parties have been included in this committee.

Brijmohan Agarwal, Ramveer Singh Bidhuri, Sangeeta Kumari Singh Deo, Jagdambika Pal, Trivendra Singh Rawat, Jagdish Shettar.
From Congress:
Tariq Anwar, Manish Tiwari, Manickam Tagore.
From other parties:
Samajwadi Party’s Dharmendra Yadav, DMK’s T.R. Baalu, Kalyan Banerjee of Trinamool Congress, Shrirang Appa Barne of Shiv Sena, and Arvind Sawant of Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray).
Role of Privileges Committee
The Privileges Committee is a standing committee of the Parliament which investigates matters relating to contempt and obstruction of privilege of the House or its members. This committee conducts detailed investigation of the matters which are referred by the Speaker of the Lok Sabha. Thereafter, the committee presents its recommendations to the House. As per the current structure, 15 members are nominated by the Speaker in the Lok Sabha, while 10 members are appointed by the Chairman in the Rajya Sabha.
Multiparty representation
According to official information, the committee has representation from various parties like Bharatiya Janata Party, Congress, Trinamool Congress, Shiv Sena, Samajwadi Party and DMK. This arrangement ensures that matters relating to privilege are investigated with multi-party cooperation. Now the new committee will formally start its work.
