Glenn Maxwell reacts to retirement announcement

New Delhi: Australia’s experienced all-rounder **Glenn Maxwell** has openly expressed his opinion in the ongoing discussions regarding his future. 37-year-old Maxwell has clarified that he is not thinking of retiring from **T20 International cricket** yet and hopes to continue playing till 2028.

Recently, the Australian team was out of the group stage of **T20 World Cup**, and during this, Maxwell’s performance did not live up to the expectations, due to which questions started being raised on his career. Former captain **Ricky Ponting** had also said that it seems difficult to have Maxwell in the 2028 team. However, Maxwell did not give much importance to these speculations.

Maxwell’s view on retirement

Maxwell told during a conversation in **Melbourne** on March 4 that he has not set any end date for his career. His focus is currently on the coming 12 months. He said that there are not many T20 matches scheduled right now, so there is no need for a formal announcement of retirement. They also want to see how supportive their body and fitness are. If opportunities become available in the future and they remain fit, they will want to contribute to the team.

‘Want to play’

Australia will host the **T20 World Cup** in 2028 and cricket will return to the Olympic Games in Los Angeles the same year. At that time Maxwell would be 40 years old. In this context, he said that if he remains fit and healthy, he will definitely try to play.

Poor performance in T20 World Cup

In the T20 World Cup, Maxwell played innings of 9, 31 and 22 runs. His strike rate also did not match his aggressive game. In the last few months, his average and strike rate in **T20 International** and **Big Bash League** have been below normal. He has definitely taken some wickets in bowling.

Two-year contract with Melbourne Stars

Maxwell has already retired from **ODI** cricket. Currently, his focus is on fitness and the opportunities available. He has signed a two-year deal with **Melbourne Stars** in the **Big Bash League** and will be seen playing for the **Hyderabad Kingsmen** team in the **Pakistan Super League** for the first time this year.
