What was the box office collection of ‘Kerala Story 2’ on the fifth day?

The film ‘The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond’ has made a remarkable comeback at the box office on the fifth day. The film, coinciding with Holi, earned ₹4 crore on Tuesday, an increase of nearly 60 per cent over Monday (March 2). With this, the total five-day business of the film has reached ₹ 16.65 crore and is very close to the figure of ₹ 17 crore.

The earnings of the last five days of the film have been as follows-

  • Day 1 (Friday) – ₹0.75 crore
  • Day 2 (Saturday) – ₹4.65 crore
  • Day 3 (Sunday) – ₹4.75 crore
  • Day 4 (Monday) – ₹2.50 crore
  • Day 5 (Tuesday/Holi) – ₹4.00 crore
  • Total – ₹16.65 crore

The film had a relatively slow opening on Friday (27 February). The temporary ban on release was lifted in the afternoon, due to which the collection on the first day remained limited. However, there was benefit of holiday and weekend on Saturday and Sunday, due to which earnings increased. By the third day the film had gained strong momentum.

Monday saw the usual weekday decline and the collection dropped to ₹2.50 crore. But the festival of Holi gave new energy to the film and there was a surge at the box office with earnings of ₹4 crore on the fifth day.

Analysts believe that weekday fluctuations are common in films based on controversial subjects. Increase in viewership on holidays and festivals gives additional momentum to such projects. The same trend has been seen with this film also.

Although the film didn’t get off to as strong a start as its prequel, a steady weekend performance and festival lead have brought it to a respectable position in the first five days.

According to trade experts, there are no big films releasing this Friday, which may help ‘The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond’ retain the screen space and audience attention. If this pace continues till the second weekend, the film may cross the ₹25 crore mark.

Made on a budget of around ₹30 crore, the film is moving towards recovering its cost on the basis of its box office collection. Now all eyes are on the performance of the sixth day and the upcoming weekend, which will decide how successful the film proves to be in the long run.
