Ministry Of External Affairs Sets Up Control Room For Indians Stranded In Gulf Countries

Amidst the increasing tension in West Asia, India has stepped up steps to help its citizens stranded in Gulf countries. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has set up a dedicated control room, which will provide coordinated assistance and real-time support to the affected Indians. While sharing the information on social media platform The helpline numbers announced by the ministry are: 1800118797 (toll-free), +91 11 2301 2113, +91 11 2301 4104 and +91 11 2301 7905.

Additionally, the ministry has also released emergency contact numbers of Indian embassies and missions located in the region. These include Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Ramallah, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates, so that distressed Indians can seek immediate help.

In a statement issued on Wednesday (March 4), the Ministry of External Affairs once again called for dialogue and diplomacy to end the ongoing conflict in West Asia. Spokesperson Jaiswal said New Delhi was raising its voice to de-escalate tensions and expressed grief over the large number of deaths in the violence. He stressed that nearly one crore Indian citizens live and work in the Gulf region, so their safety and welfare is the top priority of the government. “India cannot remain untouched by developments that negatively impact the region,” Jaiswal said.

He also warned that vital trade routes and energy supply chains pass through West Asia, and any major disruption could have a serious impact on the Indian economy.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, India strongly opposes attacks on commercial shipping. Some Indian nationals have been reported killed or missing in recent maritime incidents. He said the conflict has not only intensified but also spread to other countries, affecting normal life and economic activities in many parts of the region.

Earlier on February 28, when hostilities had started between Iran and the Gulf region, India had expressed deep concern and appealed to all parties to exercise restraint and give priority to the safety of civilians. The Ministry of External Affairs clarified that Indian Embassies and Consulates in the affected countries are in constant touch with the Indian community and organisations, issuing regular advisories and providing all possible assistance to the stranded citizens.
