Captain Aidan Markram took charge and along with experienced David Miller rescued the team. Both of them played with patience and took the score beyond 50 runs. Which gave hope to the team to reach a respectable position.

Daryl Mitchell took a brilliant catch

In the eighth over of the match, Markram made a bold attempt to play a big shot in the air on a ball from Rachin Ravindra. The ball hit the inner edge of his bat and went towards long-on. Where Daryl Mitchell made a spectacular dive forward and took a low catch. The scene was so blurry that at first glance it seemed the ball had touched the ground. The suspicion deepened when Mitchell himself did not celebrate immediately and pointed towards the umpire. On-field umpire Alex Wharf referred the decision to the third umpire for the final decision.

Third umpire’s difficult decision

TV umpire Nitin Menon watched the replays from many different and rare angles to judge this controversial catch. From the front angle it seemed that some part of the ball had hit the grass. But from the side angle it appeared that Mitchell’s fingers were right under the ball and he was in complete control. After watching the replays for a long time. Umpire Menon considered it a ‘clean catch’ and gave Markram out. This decision angered the South African fans and made it a big issue of debate.

Markram scored 18 runs before getting out

Captain Aiden Markram had scored 18 runs in 20 balls before being out. His innings included a brilliant four and a six. But as soon as he returned to the pavilion, the middle order of the team started falling apart like a pack of cards. The team’s score fell from 55/3 to 5 wickets for just 77 runs. In such difficult times, Tristan Stubbs and Marco Jensen staked their ground at the crease. Together they made an important and fighting partnership of more than 50 runs. Score of 169 runs after losing 8 wickets

Marco Jensen proved his ability today like a seasoned batsman. He hit a tremendous strike and scored a very important half-century. Which brought the team out of the crisis situation. Thanks to his courageous innings, South Africa scored 169 runs after losing 8 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs.
