Ryan Gosling brags about ‘Five-Time’ SNL hosting in new promo

Ryan Gosling appears preening with a smug and self-satisfied look in a new Saturday Night Live promo.

The actor, who will host SNL this weekend, was bragging about joining the exclusive five-timers club, which includes hosts who have led a comedy-sketch show at least five times.

In the clip, Gosling raids the Studio 8H wardrobe closet and discovers what he believes is the coveted Five-Timers Club jacket. Convinced he has reached the milestone, the actor embarks on a swagger-filled victory lap through the studio halls, lighting a cigarette with Mikey Day’s burning headshot and blowing a smoke ring shaped like a “5” toward cast member Tommy Brennan.

The antics escalate as Gosling douses his cigarette in Brennan’s coffee before knocking the cup away, then climbs onto a stuffed horse and sprays Champagne around in celebration.

The moment is short-lived. Day soon interrupts the spectacle, shielding himself with an umbrella, to inform Gosling that the celebration may be a little premature.

“This is actually going to be your fourth time hosting,” Day tells him.

Gosling then runs through his past appearances, including the Close Encounters sketch with Kate McKinnon in 2015, the viral Papyrus short in 2017 and the Beavis and Butt-Head sketch opposite Day in 2024, before asking whether other hosts have made the same mistake. Day’s answer: no.

Set to Gorillaz’s hit Clint Eastwood, the promo highlights Gosling’s comedic timing as his confidence slowly fades.

The actor returns to host SNL ahead of the release of Project Hail Mary. The episode airs Saturday, March 7 at 11:30 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock, with Gorillaz as musical guest.
