Mohammad Gulfam, the second accused in the deadly attack on ex-Muslim YouTuber Salim Vastik in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, was killed in a police encounter. He received bullet injuries during an encounter with the crime branch and SWAT team in Indirapuram area on Tuesday (March 3) night and later died in the hospital. A reward of Rs 1 lakh was announced on the accused by the police department.
Police officials said that information was received that Gulfam was present in Indirapuram police station area. After this, a checking campaign was conducted near Vasundhara Power House. Late night two youths were seen coming on a motorcycle. When the police signaled them to stop, they started running and moved quickly towards the elevated road.
During the chase, the motorcycle collided with a pile of mud and slipped, due to which both of them fell. According to the police, while trying to arrest the accused, they started firing. During this, head constables Pushpendra Kumar Shukla and Sandeep Kumar were injured. Bullets also hit the bulletproof jackets of ACP Amit Saxena, Inspector Puran Singh and Bobby Singh. A bullet also passed near the ear of SWAT team in-charge Anil Kumar.

In retaliation, Gulfam was injured by police bullets. He was taken to the hospital, where he died during treatment. His companion escaped taking advantage of the darkness. Police confirmed his identity through Aadhaar card. Gulfam was a resident of Amroha district and was living in a rented house in Ghaziabad.
According to the police, Gulfam was the elder brother of the main accused Zeeshan. Zeeshan was also killed in a police encounter on March 1 and there was a reward of Rs 1 lakh on him. Both the brothers were accused of being involved in the attack on Salim Vastik alias Salim Ahmed in Loni area on February 27.
On the morning of the attack, two youths wearing helmets reached Salim’s office in Ali Garden and attacked him with sharp weapons. According to the police, the attackers attacked him several times on the neck, stomach and ears and fled on the motorcycle. Salim was first admitted to Loni Hospital and later to Guru Teg Bahadur, where his condition remains critical.
In this case, an FIR has been registered against seven people on the complaint of Salim’s son Usman. Police say that it has come to light that both the brothers were influenced by extremist ideas and carried out the attack under the influence of a Pakistani YouTuber. J Ravindra Gaur told that police teams were searching for Gulfam for several days. Even after the death of the two main accused, the police are continuing to investigate other suspects involved in the attack and possible conspiracy.
