Hormuz Strait News: India’s big decision in the field of maritime defense; 5,083 crore contract between HAL-Russia
Hormuz Strait News: In a major step towards boosting the Indian defense sector and indigenous manufacturing, the Ministry of Defense has approved significant contracts worth Rs 5,083 crore. The deal mainly involves the purchase of six advanced light helicopters and surface-to-air missiles. The move is considered important for maritime security and military modernization.
Enhanced Security Capability The ALH Mk-II and Mk-III twin-engine helicopters being procured for the Coast Guard are equipped with state-of-the-art features. They are significantly superior to currently operational aerial platforms. Fully capable of operating from sea and coastal airstrips. According to the Ministry of Defence, the addition of these helicopters to the fleet will significantly enhance the security capabilities of artificial islands and offshore installations.

The deal is a major business boost for Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, a state-owned aerospace giant in India. The Ministry of Defense signed a contract with HAL worth Rs 2,901 crore. Under this budget, maritime role ALH Mk-III helicopters are being procured for the Coast Guard. The contract includes helicopters as well as operational equipment, engineering support packages and performance-based logistics support.
The government is keeping a close watch on the rapidly developing situation in West Asia. All necessary mechanisms have been activated to ensure the safety and welfare of seafarers and maritime assets, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said on Wednesday. West Asia is currently experiencing military turmoil, with US and Israeli forces engaged in a war against Iran.

Iran has closed the Strait of Hormuz, a major shipping route. The conflict has intensified since the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a US strike on Saturday. Minister Sonowal chaired a review meeting to assess the current security environment in the Persian Gulf and its impact on Indian maritime assets and personnel.
