US-Israel Iran War : India to strengthen air defense system; Now ‘this’ country will help
New Delhi : India is working to further strengthen its air defense system amid the ravages of war in the Middle East. As part of these efforts, India is preparing to purchase 5 new S-400 air defense systems from Russia. The Defense Acquisition Council has approved the proposal and signed an agreement with Russia.
The board headed by Defense Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh accepted the proposal of the Indian Air Force. It will be submitted to the Defense Acquisition Council headed by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh for approval of the requirement. During ‘Operation Sindoor’ the S-400 systems excelled, rendering Pakistani fighter jets, air-warning aircraft and electronic reconnaissance aircraft unable to operate. It is worth noting that on the morning of 10 May 2025, the Northern Command and Control Network of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) at Chaklala Airbase in Rawalpindi was destroyed by an Indian BrahMos attack. Pakistan immediately appealed for peace.
Establishment of communication committee
Only after the approval of the DAC will a cost negotiation committee be set up to determine the cost of the new purchase. Only then will the matter go to the Cabinet Committee on Security through the Finance Ministry, which will give final approval. All five S-400 systems will be procured outright, according to sources, while the process for the S-400 procurement is yet to be negotiated. Maintenance, repair and overhaul will be done by Indian private sector companies.
