Any one of these five can become the new Chief Minister of Bihar, will get the command of the state after Nitish Kumar
A big political upheaval can be seen in Bihar on Thursday. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has made up his mind to go to Delhi as a Rajya Sabha MP, in such a situation the new Chief Minister of Bihar may be from BJP. It is being said that Nitish Kumar will file nomination in Patna tomorrow in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Rajya Sabha elections are to be held on March 16 and the results will come on the same day.
Now five names are in the forefront regarding who will be the new head of the state. Samrat Chaudhary is considered to be the strongest contender as the new CM of Bihar. Nityanand Rai’s name is at the second position and Dilip Jaiswal’s name is at the forefront at the third position. Vijay Sinha’s name is in discussion at number four and Sanjeev Chaurasia’s name is at number five.

First name in CM race- Samrat Chaudhary
Samrat Chaudhary was born on 16 November 1968 in Lakhanpur village of Munger. His father Shakuni Chaudhary has been a veteran of politics. He was elected MLA six times and MP once. His mother Parvati Devi was an MLA from Tarapur. He completed his primary education from the village and received higher education from Madurai Kamaraj University.
Emperor’s political journey
Samrat entered politics in 1990. In May 1999, he held the post of minister for the first time in Rabri Devi’s government. He reached the assembly from Parbatta assembly seat in the year 2000 and 2010. Samrat was originally associated with RJD and JDU. In 2014, he joined BJP along with 13 RJD MLAs. He then took oath as the Urban Development and Housing Minister in the government of Jitan Ram Manjhi on 2 June 2014.
Second name in CM race – Nityanand Rai
Nityanand Rai retained his seat in the last Lok Sabha elections. He defeated RJD candidate Alok Kumar Mehta by more than 60 thousand votes. From the year 2000 till he was elected MP, he was continuously elected as MLA from Hajipur assembly seat. He also worked as the state president of BJP in Bihar. He did important work in strengthening the base of the party.
Nityanand Rai is one of the prominent Yadav faces of BJP in Bihar politics. He has been projected by the party as a strong option especially to break into the traditional Yadav vote bank of RJD and connect OBC voters with BJP.
Third name in CM race – Dilip Jaiswal
Dr. Dilip Kumar Jaiswal was born on 3 December 1963 in Gogri, Khagaria district of Bihar. Dilip Kumar Jaiswal comes from Kalwar caste (extremely backward class). The special thing is that there is no criminal case against them. Dilip has also been the state treasurer of Bihar BJP for more than 22 years. He has also held the post of minister in Nitish government. Jaiswal was first elected to the Legislative Council in 2009 from the local authorities of Purnia, Araria and Kishanganj. He is also the President of Bihar BJP.
Fourth name in CM race – Vijay Sinha
Vijay Kumar Sinha is one of the most influential faces of Bihar politics today. Born on June 5, 1967, Sinha rose from student politics to the post of Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar. Vijay Kumar Sinha belongs to an ordinary family. Sinha became the Labor Resources Minister in the year 2017. He worked on schemes related to skill development and labor interests. After this he became the Speaker of the Assembly, Leader of Opposition in the Assembly and Deputy CM of Bihar.
Fifth name in CM race – Sanjeev Chaurasia
The fifth name which is at the forefront for the new CM of Bihar is that of Sanjeev Chaurasia. In 2025, he contested the Bihar Assembly elections as a BJP candidate from Digha constituency and won. Sanjeev has done PhD.
