Rapid raid before Holi in Ranchi, samples of cheese and sweets sent for testing
Ranchi: In view of the festival of colors Holi, the Food Safety Department has intensified the campaign against adulterated cheese, khoya and sweets in the capital. Raids were conducted in various areas of the city on Monday, in which maximum samples were collected from Booti Mod area. All the samples have been sent to the laboratory for testing. Food Safety Officer Pawan Kumar said that with the increase in demand during festivals, the risk of adulteration also increases. Samples of cheese, khoya and various sweets have been taken from Booti Mod and nearby wholesale-retail markets. After the report comes, strict action will be taken if found guilty. According to him, the teams of the department are continuously monitoring, but the big challenge is the network spread in the retail market, where adulterated products are sold through small shops and temporary vendors.

How are adulterated cheese and sweets made?
According to experts, some anti-social elements adopt artificial methods to meet the demand and increase profits. In place of milk, skimmed milk powder, starch, synthetic milk or detergent mixed solution is used in making cheese. In many cases, chemicals are added to make the cheese look more white and attractive. Similarly, vegetable ghee, potato paste, flour or starch is mixed in khoya. Artificial colors, cheap flavors and low quality oil-ghee are used in sweets. There are also cases of selling stale sweets by re-frying them or immersing them in syrup and selling them as fresh. It may be noted that last week too, action was taken against nine shopkeepers for adulteration in the investigation campaign from Hinnu to Birsa Chowk.
serious impact on health
According to Dr. B. Kumar, former head of the department of Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), adulterated food items directly affect the digestive system. Consuming such cheese and sweets can cause problems like food poisoning, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach ache, allergies and skin rashes.
