New Delhi, 05 March 2026: England Badminton Championship started in Birmingham. In the first round of men’s singles, Lakshya Sene defeated world No. 1 and defending champion Shi Yuqi of China 23-21, 19-21, 21-17. Sen will now advance to the round of 16, where he will face Ng Ka Long Angus of Hong Kong, China.
Meanwhile, in the women’s category, defending Olympic champion An Seong of South Korea defeated Neslihan Erin of Turkey.
India’s top mixed doubles pair Tanisha Crasto and Dhruv Kapila also reached the second round by defeating Malaysian pair Hu Peng Ron and Cheng Su Yin. Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu is not participating in the tournament. She has returned home after being stranded at Dubai airport due to the current geopolitical tension in West Asia.
