27 crew members of Bangladesh Airlines stranded in Dubai, brought back home by US-Bangla flight
Dhaka. A US-Bangla Airlines flight reached Dhaka carrying 27 flight crew members of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, stranded in Dubai since February 28. These people were stranded in Dubai amid the ongoing military conflict in West Asia. Along with them, hundreds of Bangladeshi passengers were also brought back by special flight.
The Biman Bangladesh Airlines crew members were stranded in the United Arab Emirates for the last five days since the war-like situation began on February 28, Bangladesh’s official news agency BSS reported. This increased the concern of their families.
US-Bangla Airlines said in a statement here today that it facilitated the return of Bangladeshi nationals stranded in the region as part of its humanitarian efforts to facilitate their return.
According to the airline, two special flights have been started with permission from Dubai Airport Authority to bring back Bangladeshis affected by the changing situation in West Asia. Today, a special flight carrying 378 passengers including 27 crew members landed safely at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka. One such flight is likely to reach Dhaka on Friday morning.
Dhaka Tribune reports that 34 flights were canceled at Dhaka airport on Thursday due to military tensions in West Asia. A total of 210 flights have been canceled in the last six days. This was confirmed by Bangladesh Civil Aviation Authority official Kawsar Mahmood. He said Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar and Jordan have closed their airspace.
