‘I just want to go home’, West Indies team head coach Darren Sammy expressed disappointment!

West Indies cricket team had to face defeat by 5 wickets against India in its last match of Super-8. With this defeat, West Indies’ journey in the T20 World Cup 2026 ended. Despite the end of the World Cup journey, the West Indies team is not able to return home.

West Indies head coach Darren Sammy has expressed his disappointment by posting on social media. “I just want to go home,” Sammi wrote on X.

Air traffic has been affected due to the ongoing war between Iran and Israel. For this reason the West Indies team could not return home as per the pre-determined schedule. The wait for his return is increasing.

Cricket West Indies said in an official statement that the return of the senior men’s team from India has been delayed due to international airspace restrictions following their exit from the T20 World Cup.

The board said that the players, coaches and officials are all in India and safe. Arrangements are being made for his return.

This disruption has occurred due to the conflict in the Gulf region. The airspace is closed due to military action by Iran and Israel in the area. Airlines have been forced to cancel, divert or delay service on routes commonly used for international transit.

The Zimbabwe team’s return home was also affected. Zimbabwe was to go to Harare via Dubai. Due to closure of airspace, ICC made alternative arrangements and the team reached Harare in several groups by Ethiopian Airlines via Addis Ababa.

The ICC is making arrangements for the safe return of the West Indies team.

According to Cricket West Indies, safe travel is a priority. The ICC is working with the relevant authorities to prepare the new schedule and work on options.
