Lucknow . Commandos of Uttar Pradesh Anti Terror Squad (UP ATS) performed brilliantly and won the gold medal in the 16th All India Police Standalone Sniper Competition held from 16 to 28 February at the National Security Guard (NSG) training center Manesar, Gurugram, Haryana.

Selected sniper commandos from 17 central and state police forces of the country participated in this prestigious competition and displayed their tactical proficiency, patience and high level marksmanship skills. During the competition, accurate firing from long range, target identification, distance estimation, stealth movement and decision making ability in pressurized situations were tested.

In the competition, Uttar Pradesh Anti Terrorism Squad (UP ATS) commandos Akash Yadav and Rakesh Kumar performed brilliantly and won the gold medal in the “Best Sniper Detachment Event”. The event is usually based on a two-man team—shooter and spotter—with performance evaluated based on teamwork, target designation, analysis of environmental conditions, and extremely accurate firing.

This competition is considered an important measure of special operations capability and strategic coordination of any security force. It is noteworthy that even in the year 2025, Commando Akash Yadav has received the “Best Firer” award in the Basic Sniper Course organized by NSG. This achievement of UP ATS commandos has increased the pride of the state police.
