T20 World Cup: Samson storms against England, equals Kohli’s record by scoring 89 runs!
Sanju Samson scored a half-century in the second consecutive innings of T20 World Cup 2026. Samson completed his half-century in just 26 balls during the Semi-Final 2 against England at Wankhede Stadium on Thursday. In this match, facing 42 balls, he has equaled the record of Virat Kohli by scoring 89 runs with 7 sixes and 8 fours.
Sanju Samson has become joint number-1 in the list of Indian players who have played the biggest innings for India in the knockout match of the T20 World Cup. Before him, Virat Kohli had played an unbeaten inning of 89 runs against West Indies in the T20 World Cup 2016.
Kohli has played an inning of 77 runs against Sri Lanka in the year 2014 and 76 runs against South Africa in the year 2024. Whereas, Gautam Gambhir had scored 75 runs against Pakistan in the year 2007.
Earlier, Sanju Samson had given India a ticket to the semi-finals by playing an unbeaten inning of 97 runs in the decisive Super-8 match played against West Indies at the Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata on March 1.
Sanju Samson could not leave his mark in the initial matches of this World Cup. He contributed only 22 runs to the team’s account against Namibia, after which he played an inning of 24 runs against Zimbabwe. After this, Samson had to face criticism, but he has given a befitting reply to the critics.
