New Delhi: After Sanju Samson’s stormy fifty, India defeated England by 7 runs in the second semi-final of ICC T20 World Cup 2026 due to tremendous fielding. With this victory, Team India has made its place in the final of the tournament. Now the Indian team will face New Zealand in the final. In the ICC T20 World Cup, Team India has reached the final for the third time after 2007 and 2024.
In the match played at Wankhede Cricket Stadium in Mumbai, the Indian team, after losing the toss and batting first, scored 253 runs in the stipulated 20 overs. In response, the England team also batted brilliantly, but due to losing wickets at regular intervals, they fell short of the target by scoring 246 runs in 20 overs. In this match, a total of 499 runs were scored between both the teams.
England’s Jacob Bethall batted brilliantly while chasing the record target of 254 runs against India. Bethel single-handedly kept England in the match. He played an innings of 105 runs in 48 balls. In this innings he also hit 7 sixes and 8 fours. Apart from this, Will Jacques also played a strong innings of 35 runs in 20 balls for England in batting. Opener batsman Jos Buttler also contributed 25 runs. The team’s in-form batsman Harry Brook could not do anything special in the semi-final match.
Sanju Samson once again did wonders in batting for Team India. Samson, the hero of India’s victory in the last match against West Indies, took advantage of the lease of life he got at the score of 15 runs and scored 89 runs in 42 balls with seven sixes and eight fours. Apart from this, Ishan Kishan scored 39 runs. Sanju and Ishan Kishan made a partnership of 97 runs in 45 balls for the second wicket. Apart from this, Shivam Dubey also played an inning of 43 runs in 25 balls for Team India.
In the last overs, Hardik Pandya batted brilliantly and took India’s score beyond 250 runs. In this match, 19 sixes were hit in India’s innings, which is the best performance of the team. For England, spinners Will Jacques (two wickets for 40 runs) and Adil Rashid (two wickets for 41 runs) took two wickets each. Fast bowlers Joffra Archer and Sam Curran gave away 61 and 53 runs respectively. Archer got one wicket while Curran’s bag remained empty.
