T20 WC: Sensational Samson leads India’s charge on record-breaking nervous night in Mumbai

New Delhi: Sanju Samson did prove to be the guiding force for India in the tense T20 World Cup 2026 semifinal clash against England on Thursday but the encounter brought everyone to the edge of the seats in the Mumbai stadium, as the night turned nervous.

On a tense night at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, a loud roar was vividly audible from the stands cheering for the Men in Blue but such turned the contest that the anxiety within the fans could also be seen, albeit remaining a bit hidden. In a high-scoring thriller, India kept their nerves till the end to book their second consecutive T20 World Cup final berth but a spirited English team fought like a warrior till the end.

While things did turn India’s way during the first innings as they posted a gigantic score of 253 on the board which kept all the fans satisfied but England had different plans. Samson roared with his blistering batting show but his record-breaking knock received a blunt reply from centurion Jacob Bethell, who almost snatched the 7-run win from India’s hands.

Samson sizzles in Wankhede

While he was quiet all through the ICC marquee event but the dashing batter from Kerala proved to the entire world that he can’t be written off. In the two most crucial clashes for the defending champions, he took everything in his stride carrying on the responsibility of the entire team. His second consecutive half-century at a crucial juncture in the global ICC event erupted the entire crowd in the small stadium, which witnessed a whole lot of records being made.

Samson helps India board Ahmedabad bus

After he returned to form with a cracking knock against the West Indies in the must-win Super Eight clash, he produced another flawless show on a day which mattered the most for India. Had it not been for his 42-ball 89-run power-packed knock laden with 7 sixes and 8 boundaries, India would have missed the bus to Ahmedabad as England came so close but what really made the difference was his innings which help the side post a big total, big enough to fancy their chance for another coveted trophy.

India need to mend shortcomings before finale

Though Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya took three wickets between them and bowled comparatively better than the other bowlers to contain the English side but the victory certainly didn’t belong to them. In a such a high-scoring match with a safe total in the kitty, the margin of 7 runs does not call out for a big celebration as India will need to mend their problems, especially in the bowling department, ahead of the summit clash against New Zealand, who seem to be in their best form.
