Good news for Thanekar!! Metro will be extended to Kalyan, Ambernath and Badlapur

Mumbai Metro : An important news has come to the fore that will bring relief to the growing cities of Thane district. A proposal has come forward to extend the Mumbai Metro to connect the areas of Kalyan, Dombivli, Ulhasnagar, Ambernath and Badlapur. Due to this, lakhs of commuters who depend on overcrowded local trains every day can now get the option of Metro. In this regard, a meeting was held under the chairmanship of Kalyan MP Shrikant Shinde. Senior officials of the Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) were also present in this meeting. The meeting reviewed the work of the ongoing metro projects and discussed in detail how to enhance metro connectivity in the rapidly developing suburbs.

Currently Mumbai Metro Line 5 is under construction to connect the cities of Thane, Bhiwandi, Kalyan. However, a proposal to further expand this route has come forward. According to this proposal, metro is planned to be taken from Durgadi Naka to Chikhloli railway station via Kalyan, Ulhasnagar and Ambernath. Also, in the second option, the possibility of extending this route to Badlapur is also being investigated. Apart from this, a separate metro from Durgadi to Titwala has also been proposed. This expansion will provide another option for commuters who are currently dependent on suburban locales. Mumbai Metro

Meanwhile, Mumbai Metro Line 12 is being developed between Kalyan and Taloja. Pillar erection and station construction works are going on in this project. The authorities have been instructed to examine the possibility of extending this route from Shilphata to Mumbra and further to Kalwa. Mumbai Metro

The proposed route of Mumbai Metro Line 14 from Kanjurmarg to Badlapur was also discussed in this meeting. This corridor can play an important role in connecting the eastern suburbs of Mumbai with the residential areas of Thane district. Therefore, instructions were given to complete the planning of this project early and speed up the work.

Along with metro projects, widening of Badlapur Katai road, removal of encroachments on the road and Airoli-Katai freeway tunnel project were also reviewed in the meeting. Also the land acquisition process for the Kalyan East U-Type Road project was discussed. If the proposed metro extension is approved, the transport system in Thane district is likely to be strengthened. This can be a big relief to fast growing cities like Kalyan, Ambernath and Badlapur.
