Apart from Kapoor’s powerful performance and the film’s massy appeal, audiences were treated to a major surprise — a special cameo by veteran actor Nana Patekar. The unexpected appearance has delighted fans, especially those who have long hoped to see the iconic duo reunite on screen.
The cameo has sparked conversations among viewers, as Nana Patekar’s brief but impactful appearance brings back memories of his legendary collaborations with Anil Kapoor. Their chemistry, particularly in earlier films, remains one of the most memorable partnerships in Bollywood.
Surprise cameo brings nostalgia for fans
In one of the film’s crucial scenes, Nana Patekar appears unexpectedly on screen, instantly elevating the moment with his trademark intensity and screen presence. Though brief, the cameo adds an extra layer of excitement to the narrative.
Viewers watching the film on the streaming platform were caught off guard by the sudden entry of the veteran actor. Many fans believe that if Subedaar had been released in theatres, Patekar’s entry would have sparked massive cheers and applause from the audience.
The moment is also being seen as a nostalgic nod to the famous on-screen partnership between Anil Kapoor and Nana Patekar, whose characters in past films have left a lasting impression on Indian cinema lovers.
Iconic partnership that audiences love
Anil Kapoor and Nana Patekar first shared screen space in the critically acclaimed film Parinda in 1989. The film marked the beginning of a collaboration that would later produce some of Bollywood’s most memorable comic moments.
Nearly eighteen years later, the duo reunited in the 2007 blockbuster Welcome, which became a cult favourite among audiences. In the film, Nana Patekar played the iconic gangster Uday Bhai, while Anil Kapoor portrayed his eccentric subordinate Majnu Bhai.
Their comedic timing and hilarious exchanges quickly became one of the highlights of the film. Dialogues and scenes featuring Uday Bhai and Majnu Bhai continue to be widely shared and quoted by fans even years after the film’s release.
The two actors later returned for Welcome Back in 2015, which marked their last full-fledged on-screen collaboration. Since then, fans have repeatedly expressed their desire to see the duo reunite in another project.
With Nana Patekar’s cameo in Subedaar, audiences finally get a glimpse of the beloved pair sharing screen space again, even if briefly.
Subedaar features a strong ensemble cast
Apart from Anil Kapoor, Subedaar features an impressive ensemble cast that includes Radhikka Madan, Mona Singh, Aditya Rawal, Saurabh Shukla and Faisal Malik. Veteran actress Kushboo Sundar also appears in a cameo role in the film.
The film is directed by Suresh Trivedi, who is known for directing well-received projects such as Tumhari Sulu (2017), Jalsa (2022) and the web series Daldal (2026). With Subedaar, Trivedi brings a mix of emotional drama and high-energy storytelling that complements Anil Kapoor’s dynamic screen presence.
Grand trailer launch in Mumbai
Ahead of its release, the makers organised a grand trailer launch event at a restobar by the beach in Mumbai. The entire cast and crew attended the event, generating significant buzz around the film.
During the launch, Anil Kapoor spoke about one of the most challenging scenes he shot for the movie. According to the actor, the sequence was filmed in the middle of a large crowd of bystanders who recognised him and began cheering loudly.
“I shot the most difficult and crucial scene in the film amid thousands of bystanders. They were shouting ‘Jhakaas’ and ‘Aye jee o jee’,” Kapoor said.
Despite the distractions, the veteran actor said he managed to remain focused on the performance.
“However, I switched off the noise. I focused on my scene. If you want something from the bottom of your heart, you’ll be able to achieve it,” he added.
A reunion fans will celebrate
While Nana Patekar’s appearance in Subedaar is only a cameo, it has been enough to reignite excitement among fans of the iconic duo. The brief reunion serves as a reminder of the unforgettable characters they created together in the past.
For many viewers, the cameo feels like a tribute to one of Bollywood’s most entertaining partnerships. With audiences already reacting positively, the film’s surprise element may turn out to be one of its biggest talking points.
Whether this appearance leads to a larger collaboration between the two actors in the future remains to be seen. For now, Subedaar has delivered a nostalgic treat that fans of Anil Kapoor and Nana Patekar are unlikely to forget anytime soon.
