Release of Yash’s film Toxic postponed till June 4
The release of Yash starrer Toxic has been officially postponed from March 19 to June 4. The makers have cited unrest in the Middle East amid Iran-USA tension as the main reason for the postponement.
However, trade circles believe that there could be many factors behind this decision. Industry experts say that Toxic may face tough competition from Dhurandhar 2, which is currently much talked about among the general audience. Of the two, many feel that the audience’s curiosity is currently a little more towards Dhurandhar 2.
While the teaser of Toxic initially created excitement, the recently released first single, “Tabaahi” received mixed to negative responses online. Instead of raising expectations, the song struggled to build sustained momentum for the film, leading to concerns over pre-release hype.
Another highlight is the reportedly high pre-release business of the film. Since Toxic was said to have been sold at premium prices in many territories, recovery in the competitive window may be difficult. Solo release in June may bring better earnings and some relief at the box office.
Although in the official statement, the reason for this delay has been cited as geopolitical unrest, but industry experts say that strategic release planning and market thinking may also have influenced this step. Interestingly, the makers may also avoid direct comparisons with Dhurandhar 2, as it is reported that the chances of that film being released in some areas of the Middle East are slim, as its background is against Pakistan, as was the case with its first part.
