West Bengal: Before the assembly elections, Governor C.V. Anand Bose resigned

Kolkata5 March. In a dramatic development ahead of the impending assembly elections in West Bengal, Governor CV Anand Bose resigned from his post on Thursday. After resigning, CV Anand Bose, who was the Governor of Bengal for almost three and a half years, said, ‘I have spent a lot of time in the Governor’s office.’

It is noteworthy that former bureaucrat CV Anand Bose was appointed on November 17, 2022, a few months after former West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar left the post to contest the Vice President election and he took charge on November 23.

However, CV Anand Bose’s tenure as Governor was often full of conflicts with the TMC government led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. There were frequent clashes between the Raj Bhavan and the Trinamool Congress government over administrative issues, law and order matters and the Governor’s criticism of the state administration.

There was controversy during Bose’s tenure when, in 2024, a female employee working on contract at Raj Bhavan accused him of sexual harassment. The governor denied the allegations and demanded a probe while the incident triggered a political confrontation between the Raj Bhavan and the Mamata Banerjee-led government.

CM Mamata on Governor’s resignation surprised and worried

Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said she was ‘shocked and very concerned’ by the sudden resignation of CV Anand Bose. He said that he did not yet know the reasons behind the Governor’s decision. He also alleged that the Governor may be under pressure from the Union Home Minister of India ahead of the upcoming state assembly elections.

The new Governor R.N. Ravi’s appointment was also criticized

Mamta appointed RN without consulting him. Criticized the Center for appointing Ravi as the new Governor of West Bengal and termed the move as a violation of constitutional traditions and cooperative federalism.

Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta also resigns.

On the other hand, in another surprising development in Ladakh, Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory Kavinder Gupta also resigned on Thursday. Sources said that Kavinder Gupta had sent his resignation to the Home Ministry. It is said that the Home Ministry was angry with him for not handling the situation in Ladakh properly.

Senior Jammu leader Kavinder Gupta took oath as the third Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Ladakh on July 18, 2025, after appointment by the President of India last year. During his tenure he supervised many administrative and development-oriented works in the Union Territory. According to official sources, Kavinder Gupta resigned from the post this morning itself. However, the reasons for his resignation were not immediately disclosed.
